Some Free and Inexpensive Ways to Stop Snoring

Snoring has to be one of the most annoying conditions to be affected with, not least because you may be unaware that you’re doing it. However this condition affects millions of people worldwide and can even indicate a serious health problem. Here’s some low cost, natural snoring remedies that will allow you to sleep peacefully again.

Snoring can caused by stress, anxiety or worry. Stress also lead to restless sleep and more snoring which sets up a vicious cycle. One way to deal with this is to try doing some type of stress release technique such as yoga or controlled breathing. If you solve the snoring, you will get more and better sleep. This will then reduce your overall stress.

If you’re pregnant and suffer from snoring, see your physician immediately. You may have just started snoring when you became pregnant. While this is quite common, it may affect oxygen delivery to your baby, therefore, it is important to visit your doctor as soon as you notice yourself snoring to rule out any issues that may harm your unborn baby.

Try not to fall asleep on your back. Sleeping flat on your back makes your throat relax, which causes the soft palate to descend. This causes your amount of snoring to increase. If you snore, try to sleep on your side, but anything is better than being on your back.

To help open the airways and breathe more easily, one thing you can try is to pace an extras pillow under your head. Raising your head in this fashion allows for better airflow and will help stop snoring. There are also specially designed snoring pillows that will do the same thing, for a price.

Some people find sleeping with pillows stacked under their back to be helpful in reducing snoring. This puts you in a nearly sitting position. This will stop your nose from congesting and instead allow drainage to flow down your throat. This will help your snoring.

There are many over the counter devices that are designed for snorers. Although these devices don’t work for everyone, they are worth a try because they don’t cost much and may just work in your case. These devices include nasal strips which open the nostrils, nasal sprays and even pills. Regardless of what you try, always consult your doctor first, so they can make a recommendation about what the best option is for your problem.

Try changing your sleeping position to cease snoring. Most of the time sleeping on your back can cause you to snore because gravity pushes your head down, causing your throat to close a little. Sleep on your side to relieve stress from your neck and to make sleeping easier; your tendency to snore will be reduced.

If you are expecting and suddenly begin snoring when you had no previous history of snoring, consult a medical professional right away. The weight gain and the increase in hormones that is experienced throughout pregnancy can relax airway muscles. If you snore a lot, your fetus might not be getting the oxygen needed.

If allergies and nasal congestion are a part of your life, this can be the cause of snoring during the night. Taking a decongestant an hour before bed can help to clear out your nose and allow you to sleep well. However bear in mind that this is not a long term fix. Decongestant sprays are not designed for long term use and decongestant tablets contain ingredients which can keep you awake.

The tennis ball method sounds quite funny, but it’s a remedy that many people claim is quite effective. This is when you place a tennis ball in a pocket that you have sewn on the back of your pajama top. Sleeping on your back then becomes uncomfortable, thus forcing your body to roll over. After you become used to sleeping on your side, you can remove the tennis ball.

If these simple tips to stop snoring don’t work, it’s time to see your doctor to establish the real cause of your snoring. You could have sleep apnea, which will require the use of a CPAP machine, or you could consider snoring surgery which is now becoming more sophisticated. It could be time to consider more effective ways to stop snoring for you, to enable you to sleep peacefully again.

Learn These Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Sleep apnea symptoms are a warning sign

Sleep apnea is sometimes confused with simple snoring. That’s why it’s important to be aware of sleep apnea symptoms, so that you seek treatment as soon as possible. Sleep apnea causes lack of oxygen in the body which can lead to serious health problems, including death.

sleep apnea symptoms

Image via Flickr

Sleep apnea, also called sleep apnoea, is a fairly typical sleep disorder. It’s described as brief interruptions of breathing while asleep. These instances, called apneas, last 10-seconds or more and take place over and over again throughout the night. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they battle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of the disruptions during sleep. The good news is that there are natural sleep apnea treatments such as CPAP alternatives if you need a sleeping aid.

The most prevalent type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), caused by relaxation of soft tissue in the back of the throat that blocks the passage of air. Central sleep apnea (CSA) is a result of irregularities in the brain’s normal signals to breathe. Many people with sleep apnea have a combination of both types. (This may cause the sleeping disorder excessive sleeping)

OSA is more common in males than females and in those people who are overweight or obese. Here are several sleep apnea symptoms to look out for if you suspect you are being affected by this disorder.

* Excessive Daytime Sleepiness

* Restless Sleep

* Heavy Snoring (With Periods Of Silence Followed By Gasps)

* Drifting Off To Sleep During The Day

* Morning Headaches

* Difficulty Concentrating

* Irritability

* Forgetfulness

* Mood or Behavior Changes

* Gaining Weight

* Elevated Heart Rate

* Anxiousness

* Depression

The majority of people with sleep apnea have obstructive apnea “OSA”, in which the person stops breathing while asleep due to airway blockage. Breathing is started again in just a few seconds, but periods of as long as 60 seconds are not uncommon in severe cases.

OSA is more common among people who snore, who are obese, who consume alcohol, or who have anatomical abnormalities of the jaw or soft palate. However, atypical cases do occur, and the condition shouldn’t be ruled out unilaterally merely because the patient does not fit the profile. Sometimes, CPAP pillows can help with sleep get a good night sleep.

“OSA” is caused by the relaxation of the muscles in the airway during sleep. Although the vast majority of people successfully maintain an open upper airway and breathe normally while asleep, a considerable number of individuals are susceptible to serious constricting or occlusion of the pharynx, so that breathing is impeded or even completely obstructed. As the brain senses a build-up of carbon dioxide, airway muscles are triggered which open the airway, permitting breathing to resume but disturbing deep sleep.

The prognosis is that sleep apnea if left untreated could be life threatening. Excessive daytime sleepiness may cause people to fall asleep at inappropriate times, such as while driving. Sleep apnea appears to put people at risk for stroke. Effective treatment can also lower the risk of heart and blood pressure problems.

A New Way to Fight Insomnia? The Insomnia Cap

The insomnia cap – a new concept in the fight against insomnia

A simple online search will generate scores of alternatives for insomniacs who prefer not to rely on medicinal sleep aids. But one recently-developed product that caught the attention of many sleep experts was a nighttime insomnia cap designed to cool the head and brain in order to promote better sleep. Evidence for the insomnia cap method was collected at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. Researchers presented the results of their preliminary study in Minneapolis, MN to the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical and Translational Science, Dr. Daniel Buysse, said that scientists have known for some time that people who suffer from insomnia have overactive frontal lobes in their brains, which can help to explain why falling asleep and maintaining deep asleep throughout the night may be difficult. The water-filled insomnia cap attempts to cool this part of the brain, which lies just below the forehead, with surface cooling meant to slow down activity in the frontal lobe, allowing it to relax. Dr. Buysse is co-author of the recent study in support of insomnia cooling caps.

In the study, 12 insomnia patients were outfitted with insomnia cooling caps. A control group of 12 healthy, non-insomnia patients, each matched for gender and age, was also compiled. The insomnia patients consisted of 9 women and 3 men, and they all produced an average age of 45.

The insomnia cap’s temperature control system uses a cool water mechanism to keep the patients’ heads from heating up too much during the night. The insomnia patients were asked to sleep overnight in a sleep center for a total of 8 nights:

  • 2 nights – no insomnia cap worn at all
  • 2 nights – insomnia cap set at 86 degrees Fahrenheit (average temperature)
  • 2 nights – insomnia cap set at 72 degrees Fahrenheit (cool temperature)
  • 2 nights – insomnia cap set at 57 degrees Fahrenheit (coolest temperature)

As the patients slept, researchers collected data about their rapid or non-rapid eye movements, brain waves and muscle movement. This first round study found that approximately 75 percent of insomnia patients were able to sleep more soundly while wearing the insomnia cap set at the coolest temperature. The insomnia patients fell asleep just as quickly and stayed asleep or just as long as their healthy counterparts. In particular, the cap helped the insomnia patients achieve more deep, slow-wave sleep. At higher temperatures, the group showed no significant benefit and displayed their normal difficulty sleeping.

Some have said that insomniacs may complain about their heads being too cold at night while wearing the cap. But Dr. Buysse insisted that safety risks are minimal here; if people feel too cold, they could simply wake up, remove the cap and try to go back to sleep without it. Dr. Buysse said that the initial findings suggest that cooling even the surface of the frontal lobe may have a significant effect on slowing down brain metabolism and thereby improving sleep quality. Other sleep experts have contested to the potential of further studies with the insomnia cap, measurements of body temperature and medical imaging of brain activity during sleep.

Serenite Jr Is a Safe Natural Herbal Formula To Promote Healthy Sleep Patterns

Serenite Jr herbal remedy

If you have a child that is not sleeping, or who wakes frequently, the first thing to do would be to have them checked out for reasons why. Your doctor, depending on the situation, may recommend a sleep study. This would pick up any abnormal brain activity which may be keeping your child awake and restless.serenite jr

However, sometimes a sleep study will not show any abnormalities. So what now? Well there are a few things that can be done, but the first things would be to put your child on Serenite Jr. There are a few Serenite Jr reviews on the web that you can can out to see how other parents are benefiting from this.

Serenite Jr is a non habit forming herbal sedative especially formulated for children. It is not a sleeping pill or a drug and is perfectly safe to take for children over the age of six months.

Serenite Jr is a herbal remedy which act to develop healthy sleep patterns in children whose sleep has been disrupted for one reason or the other. Serenite Jr will have a relaxing effect and promote drowsiness so that your child can fall asleep easier and will stay asleep throughout the night.

Sleep deprivation in children can cause all sorts of problems, such as inattention at school, moodiness and even a depressed immune system. In extreme cases, sleep problems in children can even affect growth patterns, so it’s so important to ensure they get the sleep they (and you) need.

Are there other steps you can take to help your child sleep better? Children need to wind down before bed and the best way to do this is with a sleep routine that is easy enough to follow that you can implement it every night. A sleep routine is simply a list of mundane tasks performed in the same order every night. These could be putting away toys, cleaning teeth, getting undressed, bedtime story and lights out.

A sleep routine works so well because it sends a message to the child’s subconscious mind that it’s time to go to sleep. A sleep routine is very powerful and will even work on adults (try it!).

Of course it goes without saying that you should not let your kids gets too excitable before bed, so try and keep boisterous games and exiting TV shows for earlier in the day. Also make sure your child is not exposed to bright light just before bed, so no computer or TV for at least an hour before bed so as not to interfere with melatonin levels. It’s fine to use a dim light in the room, however, if your child is afraid of the dark.

Will Serenite Jr work on every child? No, of course not. But if it doesn’t work, you simply return the product for a complete refund.

Native Remedies Serenite Jr is a herbal blend of Chamomile, Cina, Passion Flower and Coffea (nothing to do with coffee!) which all combine together to form a soothing blend to help your child relax and sleep. Definitely worth a try.
